Map your current course structure

The revised Psychology course is first assessed in May 2027. Use the course outline supplied by your school to identify the content, concepts, contexts and research work you are studying. Keep the assessment overview for your level beside it. Older revision material can still contain useful psychological knowledge, but its task descriptions may not match your examination. Your map should make the connections in the current course visible and help you choose appropriate practice.

Connect a lesson across the map

After a lesson, record the psychological idea, the context in which it was applied and the concept used to examine it. Add the method or evidence involved. Explain each connection in a sentence rather than only drawing arrows. For example, a lesson about learning may raise questions about measurement when a task score is used to represent understanding. The map becomes useful when you can explain why that connection changes interpretation.

Keep practicals as method evidence

For each class practical, record its question, method, operational decisions, observations and limitations. Use your own learning from the activity, following the teacher's guidance. Practical notes should help explain how research choices affect evidence. Avoid reconstructing ideal procedures after the event as if they were the procedures actually used. A difficulty with a measure or recruitment can provide useful material for understanding design, provided you describe it accurately.

Try a measurement pathway

Imagine a class practical uses a short task to examine attention. Your map could link the relevant psychological content to the chosen task, the context of the participants and questions about measurement. Ask whether task performance reflects attention alone or also familiarity and motivation. Then apply the same reasoning to an unfamiliar study. This pathway turns a practical experience into transferable evaluation rather than a report you memorize without understanding its methodological decisions.

Plan task-specific practice

Tag practice by what it requires: applying knowledge, analysing research or interpreting data, as appropriate to your level. Include the research proposal as a separate long-term commitment. After feedback, update the map with the connection you struggled to explain. Check current specimen and school-selected materials before using an older paper as a timing model. A course map should direct practice toward your real assessment while keeping the underlying psychological reasoning coherent.

Test the reasoning in a new situation

Change one feature of the example: the population, setting, measurement or researcher's role. Explain which part of your interpretation would change and which could remain. This checks whether you understand the reasoning rather than recognize a familiar study. Keep your revised explanation concise and compare it with your course materials. When uncertainty remains, bring the attempted explanation to your teacher with a specific question. In practice tasks, label invented findings as hypothetical; an imagined result should never appear in coursework as if participants actually produced it. Check method terminology against your class materials, especially when distinguishing observation, association and causation. Precise language helps the reader see what your design or evidence permits and where the interpretation must remain limited.
