See the portfolio as a set

An Economics IA portfolio needs coordination as well as strong individual commentaries. Keep an overview sheet from the moment you choose the first article. Record each article's source, publication date, syllabus area and planned key concept. This makes it easier to notice conflicts before drafting another commentary. Use the current requirements supplied by your school to check the set; advice about an older portfolio model may use different limits or expectations.

Record decisions at selection time

Save the article itself and its bibliographic details when you choose it. Keep a note explaining the event you plan to analyse and why the article supports that analysis. Separating the saved article from your working notes prevents later confusion about which version you used. If you replace an article, update the overview sheet and tell your teacher. A portfolio can become inconsistent when local changes are made without checking their effect on the whole submission.

Distinguish repeated concepts from continuity

Economic reasoning naturally connects across topics, but your portfolio choices must meet the applicable rubric requirements. Verify the required range of units, sources and key concepts with your teacher. Do not assume that a different newspaper title automatically makes a repeated analytical task suitable. Ask what distinct economic question each commentary answers. The overview should reveal meaningful coverage alongside formal compliance, while each commentary remains focused on its own selected event.

Work through a portfolio map

Imagine three hypothetical entries: a market intervention, an inflation policy and a trade measure. For each, record the chosen article, relevant unit and concept before writing. If two entries rely on the same source or proposed concept, flag the conflict for review instead of leaving it until submission week. Then write one sentence describing each commentary's central mechanism. If those sentences are nearly identical, reconsider whether the article selection offers enough distinct analysis.

Audit both text and files

Check the commentary word counts against the current limit and ensure the relevant article accompanies each piece. Review diagram readability, identifying details, citations and consistency between the commentary and overview sheet. File names should make the sequence obvious to you and your teacher. Open the final exported files to confirm that diagrams, symbols and article text remain visible. A correct working document can still become an incomplete or unreadable submission after export.

Make the final review traceable

Use a short completion record with requirement, evidence and status. For unresolved items, write the person who can clarify them and the next action. Avoid silently treating uncertainty as approval. Complete the review early enough to correct a missing article or a formatting problem. This does not replace your teacher's submission process; it gives that process a coherent set of materials and helps you show which portfolio decisions have already been checked.

Keep the overview outside the assessed commentary unless your school specifically requests it as part of the submission process. Its purpose is organization and checking. Confirm which files the school needs, and distinguish working materials from the final assessed pieces.
