En algunos sectores de la comunidad se considera preferible el primer término, ya que menciona, correctamente, a la gente o la persona en primer lugar. Otros perciben ésta como una indicación de que es la persona que tiene la discapacidad (en algún sentido implicando que es “culpa de la persona”), en lugar de la ignorancia o indiferencia de la sociedad en su conjunto, la que les ocasiona dificultades. Algunas personas, por lo tanto, prefieren el segundo término. Hemos elegido usar el término persona(s) discapacitada(s), no porque pensamos que estamos en posición de hacer un juicio sobre este tema, sino porque había que tomar una decisión. No es la intención de IBO causar ninguna ofensa a ningún sector de la comunidad mundial y se han tomado todas las medidas razonables para asegurar la calidad y exactitud del material que se incluye en el estudio de caso.
