Resource overview

This essay / exemplar is listed under German A in the 2015 examination archive. The catalogue session is May 2015. The information below helps you identify the document before opening the complete PDF. Subject, year and session labels come from the archive catalogue; the original cover remains the reference if a label differs. A file is not automatically suitable for your current syllabus simply because its subject name matches.

For coursework research, read this document as a reference rather than a template to submit. Notice how the question, evidence and explanation connect. If a paired commentary or subject report is available, compare it with the original work instead of assuming a polished essay received a particular mark. Historical examples may belong to an earlier assessment framework.

The public preview contains file information and, where reliable text extraction is available, a limited opening excerpt. It is not a summary of unseen questions or a replacement for the original document. Create a free email account to read or download the complete file. No payment is required to unlock this archive resource.

This original usage overview is based on the archive metadata. It does not claim to summarise the complete file.

decided to study two plays from the periods of "Aufklarung" and "Sturm und Orang", comparing Lessing's "Emilia Galotti" and Schiller's "Kabale and Liebe". She was very impressed by the socio-political implications of both works and how new and challenging they must have been at their time. She focused her Extended Essay on the close study of the characters of Appiani and Wurm, trying to determine to what extent they were transgressing into a different social class from the one they had been born in and how that is depicted in the respective plays. has put a considerable effort into examining the experiences of the two characters and how they are representative of the time the plays were written in. She evaluated different methods the authors applied to put their political message into a dramatic work and in the process she studied words and actions of Wurm and Appiani in great detail. She discussed her findings with me on several occasions and worked very hard to find a good balance between all parts of her study. had unfortunately taken quite a long time to find her research question and was consequently struggling to come to terms with the structural side of her study. She has successfully incorporated different sources into the study, all of which are well referenced. She has - in my opinion - written a detailed and dedicated essay, speaking of her interest in literary characters and the time in which they were created.
