Resource overview

This markscheme is listed under Business management in the 2002 examination archive. Its catalogue level is SL. The catalogue session is May. The information below helps you identify the document before opening the complete PDF. Subject, year and session labels come from the archive catalogue; the original cover remains the reference if a label differs. A file is not automatically suitable for your current syllabus simply because its subject name matches.

Use this markscheme alongside its matching question paper. Attempt the questions first, then compare the required reasoning and the available marks. Record the exact step that lost credit rather than only the final answer. Examiner wording can help you distinguish a calculation error from missing explanation, but an older markscheme may use a previous assessment structure.

The public preview contains file information and, where reliable text extraction is available, a limited opening excerpt. It is not a summary of unseen questions or a replacement for the original document. Create a free email account to read or download the complete file. No payment is required to unlock this archive resource.

This original usage overview is based on the archive metadata. It does not claim to summarise the complete file.

(a) State two objectives of a charity. Objectives: ! to promote a cause ! to provide a service ! to be accountable to the stakeholders – government, community, board ! to appear altruistic ! to raise funds. Award [1 mark] for each suitable objective to a maximum of [2 marks]. [4 marks] (b) Analyse the organization char t in terms of line-management responsibility and span of control. Use appropriate examples from the chart to illustrate your answer. There are five levels of hierarchy in the organization, the line management structure is clear for most of the staff, except for the Community Administrative Assistants. The Administrative Assistants answer to both the Education Officer and the Health Officer, this may lead to confusion and problems with decision-making. The span of control is the number of subordinates controlled by the manager, for example the operations manager has a span of control of two. Generally the span of control in the organization is narrow. This aids the decision making process, making it easier to consult. [4 marks] The answer analyses the organization chart, in terms of line ma nagement responsibility and span of control. The analysis is de tailed and uses appropria te examples from the chart. [2 to 3 marks] The answer attempts to analyse the organization chart, in terms of line management responsibility and span of control. The analysis may lack detail but uses examples from the chart. [1 mark] The answer is limited in terms of line management and span of control. There is no attempt to analyse the chart. Reference to the chart is limited. – 3 – M02/370/S(2)M+
