This essay / exemplar is listed under German B in the 2015 examination archive. The catalogue session is May 2015. The information below helps you identify the document before opening the complete PDF. Subject, year and session labels come from the archive catalogue; the original cover remains the reference if a label differs. A file is not automatically suitable for your current syllabus simply because its subject name matches.
For coursework research, read this document as a reference rather than a template to submit. Notice how the question, evidence and explanation connect. If a paired commentary or subject report is available, compare it with the original work instead of assuming a polished essay received a particular mark. Historical examples may belong to an earlier assessment framework.

has made an enthusiastic effort with this extended essay. Even though is a German
passport holder, who has never received schooling in Germany, he did find it challenging- especially
when comp iling this research based essay at the appropriate language level. During the two year
course, he was fascinated by the novel: "So wie ich will - Mein Leben zwischen Moschee und Minirock"
by Melda Akbas that we read in class as part of the literary study that is required in Language B HL
courses. It was this novel that actually made him do further research in this field that finally led to his
extended essay topic. At first, read two more pieces of literature dealing with daily life of
migrants in Germany and wanted to write a literary analysis for his extended essay. Through a discussion
with me and wider discussions with his friends he decided to focus on the factors influencing the
cultural identity of an adolescent of Turkish roots in Germany. reflected during his vive voce, that
he had struggled to narrow his ideas down to an area which he could explore adequately in the
course of the extended essay. researched an impressive number of data, which resulted in
copious notes and lots of good ideas but still no overview of how he was really going to organize his
essay. The challenge to find a structure for his essay which would allow him to explore his thesis, led him
to bring the issue up during one
of our discussions. I suggested that he might consider dividing the
essay into more manageable sections or chapters and sub chapters. By referring to his notes he
decided that the factors influencing the cultural identity of an adolescent of Turkish roots in Germany
were religion/culture, language, education, stereotypes and clothes. He decided to make these areas
the basis for his chapters. Another challenge which he faced was not to create a mostly narrative
piece of work. The feedback given to his first draft highlighted this and managed to overcome
this challenge in his final version. In the viva voce pointed out that he has learned a lot through
this experience and now feels much more comfortable in regards to expectations in tertiary education.
